principal holds python

McGhee Elementary Principal Mary Wells celebrated ALL students for achieving – and then surpassing the school reading goals. Principal Mary Wells promised to hold a snake if they met the 25,000-minute reading goal. They did, so she said she would hold a tarantula if they met their 35,000-minute goal!

Mrs. Wells kept good on her promise and on Wednesday, March 12, Mr. Bob the python was placed in her hands. Mr. Bob graciously dangled on her wrist while shrieks of delight from the student body filled the gymnasium.

Students read more than 41,000 minutes and Giselle, read the most at more than 1100 minutes for those of you quick at math, that's 200 hours! Congratulations Giselle!

Additionally, the top reader (total minutes read) and the top raiser (total money raised) from each classroom, got to silly string their teacher.

The classroom with the most money raised was Mrs. Bolm's Kindergarten and they earned a pizza party. The classroom with the most minutes read was Mrs. Courville's 5th grade and they earned a donut party.

William Donner in Mrs. Bolm's Kindergarten raised the most money in the school and earned lunch with Mrs. Wells.  Giselle Huffaker in Mrs. Courville's 5th grade read the most minutes in the school and also earned lunch with Mrs. Wells.

McGhee's goal was to raise $5000 as a building, and we have raised just over $4800.  We are still accepting donations until March 20.  Here is the link where people can donate: https://www.read-a-thon.com/school/_61300
