Celebrating Growth in Title One: A Year of Achievements

By Louan Weakland

In the Title One program this year, we have witnessed remarkable growth and development among our students. Starting with a group of 20 kindergarten students and transitioning to a more focused group of 7 has allowed us to provide personalized attention and support. This change has been instrumental in fostering a nurturing environment where each child's learning journey is prioritized.

Creating a Supportive Learning Environment

Our small group setting has proven to be incredibly beneficial, as it encourages accountability and collaboration among the students. We regularly observe them using encouraging words to support each other, creating a community of learners who celebrate each other's successes. The joy on their faces as they progress in their reading skills is truly rewarding.

The Role of Our Dedicated Team

I'm immensely proud of my team, (Rhonda Ellis, Ginger Torpey and Emma Delane) who has worked diligently to ensure that we provide a safe and positive learning environment. We prioritize connecting with our students by taking time before each lesson to listen to their stories and ask about their day. This practice helps us understand what is important to them and makes them feel valued and heard.

Building Essential Skills

Learning to read is a challenging endeavor, but we believe in the capability of our students to overcome difficulties. Every day, we focus on building their confidence, responsibility, and perseverance. Our team frequently reinforces this mindset with affirmations like, "You can do this, I'm here to help," which motivates and reassures our students.

Celebrating Success

The progress our students have made, coupled with the dedication of my Title One team, fills me with pride. We have created an environment where challenges are met with determination, and every small victory is celebrated. The growth we have seen this year is a testament to the hard work and resilience of both the students and the educators involved. Together, we are achieving great things!
